Sea level Apr 2013

The latest numbers from Colorado University show sea level increasing at 3.2 mm per year. Or just over 12 inches per 100 years. This is exactly the same as almost three years ago. So we're seeing a linear increase here, not an exponential one. At least so far.

The image is of a spiral galaxy NGC 4414, about 60 million light years from us. It is about 50 thousand light years in diameter. Source: Wikipedia

Some other facts (estimates?) about galaxies:
  • Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains about 100 billion planets
  • The universe contains about 170 billion galaxies
  • The space between galaxies is a very thin gas at about one atom per cubic meter
  • The most distant galaxy is about 13.4 billion light years from us
